10 ways to earn money with cryptocurrency

How to earn money with cryptocurrency? This simple guide will give you step-by-step instructions to do it! You’ll learn how to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, use them to earn money online, and even build your own blockchain platform if you want to become an expert in the field!

1) Start mining

Get yourself a computer and graphics card (AMD Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB) and start mining some Ether. That’s right, both AMD and Nvidia are making cryptocurrency-specific cards. These will be very popular among miners once they come on the market later in 2017. You can also mine Zcash, but that won’t be as profitable as it may take longer to mine on your hardware compared to other currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum.

2) Buy Bitcoin

There are a number of different options for how you can buy Bitcoin.

It’s important that you do your research and only invest what you can afford to lose—this is not financial advice, merely an observation. You may want to start small by setting up an account at a cryptocurrency exchange like Coinbase or Bitstamp and buying one Bitcoin (or less). Once you get comfortable trading on these platforms, move onto other exchanges like Bittrex or Gemini.

As mentioned earlier, mining Bitcoin will likely become unprofitable in just a few years; as such, it isn’t really something I would recommend doing unless you have some serious computing power at your disposal.

3) Set up your account on an exchange

Setting up your account on an exchange can be a little daunting at first, but once you’ve done it once, you shouldn’t have any issues with subsequent exchanges. It’s important to choose a good exchange for two reasons: security and value. If your private key is compromised or lost while you have cryptocurrency stored on a particular exchange, there’s no recourse; that currency is gone forever. Similarly, if one currency is worth significantly more than another (for example Bitcoin vs Litecoin), then it might make sense to keep some of each in separate wallets.

4) HODL for a long time

Crypto enthusiasts are fond of a specific word: HODL.

In short, it means hold on for dear life. Essentially, you should hold onto your coins even when there's blood in the water. If you bought bitcoin when it was trading at around $5,000 per coin and have held it since, you're now sitting on a sizable profit! So what do you do? Instead of cashing out into fiat currency (e.g., USD), consider taking some profits off of your investment and then using that fiat currency to buy more crypto—essentially buying low and selling high. This technique is called dollar cost averaging, and it’s likely one of the most beneficial things you can do if you want to become a successful cryptocurrency investor.

5) Invest in ICOs

ICOs have become a popular way to invest in cryptocurrencies because most of them allow you to buy your favorite coins and tokens early on, allowing you to reap huge profits once they rise in value. ICOs are somewhat similar to crowdfunding; if you’re familiar with that concept, it will be easy for you understand how ICOs work. However, instead of donating and receiving rewards in exchange, here you invest your cryptocurrency (usually Bitcoin or Ethereum) and receive altcoins or tokens in return—at least ones that are valuable enough. If an ICO looks like a scam or has obvious red flags when browsing through their website, move on.

6) Work as an insider in crypto world

Participate in Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and get a share of cryptocurrency. In an ICO, companies are creating new digital tokens and selling them to investors who want to help fund those projects. Investing in digital currencies or ICOs is risky, so you should only spend what you can afford to lose. And research before taking part in an ICO—find out how solid its business plan is, as well as its technology behind it. You can invest in bitcoin without actually buying bitcoin (or any other cryptocurrency), thanks to CFDs. Trading CFDs lets you go long on bitcoin without spending your cash.

7) Crypto trading

If you’re already an experienced trader, or if you want a way to invest in cryptocurrency without buying coins directly, trading on margin could be your answer. There are a number of different services that offer margin trading on various cryptocurrencies. For example, Kraken offers up to 5x leverage for Bitcoin trades, and xBTCe offers up to 10x leverage for some altcoin trades. Keep in mind that there are fees for using most of these services. Some exchanges also don’t allow leveraged trading at all. Be sure to check out our guides on how to trade Bitcoin and other cryptos for beginners.

9) Other Ways of Earning Money With Crypto

Some of these are more complicated than others. Mining and exchanges, for example, take a significant amount of technical knowledge and set-up. However, just because something is difficult doesn’t mean it can’t be done or that you shouldn’t pursue it if it’s what you want.
